Pool Service in Barker, TX

Barker is an unincorporated Harris County community with its own post office on Baker Road, and the subdivisions near it, such as Nottingham Country, Kelliwood, and Green Trails Park, use Katy mailing addresses. Lanterra Pools handles weekly care and repairs around Barker Reservoir, between Katy and Houston. Your pool gets one assigned technician on a fixed weekday, and every repair starts with an honest diagnosis.

A railroad stop that became a reservoir neighborhood

The MKT railroad came through in 1895, and a post office followed in 1898. Barker never incorporated, and today the area is primarily residential, organized around Barker Reservoir, the Army Corps of Engineers flood-control reservoir in the southwest corner where I-10 meets SH-6. Harris County runs George Bush Park entirely inside the reservoir, and Mason Creek and Upper Buffalo Bayou are the main streams feeding it.

Nottingham Country fills the block framed by I-10, Fry Road, Westgreen Boulevard, and Highland Knolls Drive. It went up in phases from the mid-1970s through the 1980s and had about 2,400 residences as of 2014. The Kelliwood sections followed from the 1980s into the early 2000s, with Kelliwood Greens laid out around golf courses and Kelliwood Lakes on waterfront lots. Green Trails Park, behind the reservoir in 77094, was completed in 1997.

Prairie lots that grew a canopy

Nottingham Country was built on open prairie that had no trees. Fifty years of planting later, the same streets are known for large lots and mature trees, so backyard pools now catch leaves nobody planned for. The skimmer basket and the pump strainer clog quicker in the shedding seasons, filters climb in pressure sooner, and leaves left sitting on plaster can stain it. A weekly visit keeps baskets empty and the walls brushed before that debris turns into a chlorine problem.

The equipment pad tells the same story of age. A pool dug alongside one of the first Nottingham Country houses is approaching 50 years old, and even a 1990s Kelliwood pool has likely outlived its first pump. Plaster, tile, and plumbing may be original or close to it. When a pump motor quits now, federal efficiency rules require standard-size replacement motors built since September 29, 2025 to include variable-speed control, so a failed motor is often the moment to rethink the whole pump. We open the pad and check what is there before recommending a pump replacement or a simpler repair.

MUD water on a moving supply

There is no single water utility here. Kelliwood Gardens gets its water from Nottingham MUD, and Green Trails Park is served by Longhorn Town Utility District. The bigger change is regional: the West Harris County and North Fort Bend water authorities are building a pipeline of more than 1.2 billion dollars to carry Lake Houston water west toward Katy, to meet subsidence rules calling for a 60 percent cut in groundwater use in 2025 and 80 percent by 2035. When that reaches a particular district's taps is up to the district.

No published hardness figure was found for these districts, and the source blend can change as the transition continues. So we measure your own pool's calcium and alkalinity readings on every visit instead of trusting a neighborhood number. If you run a salt system, those readings decide how often the cell needs descaling.

When the reservoir pool rises

During Harvey in 2017 the Corps held runoff behind Addicks and Barker dams, and about 7,000 acres of private land upstream went under. Winsor Park Lakes was among the neighborhoods that flooded when the gates were closed. Around here the flood risk comes from the reservoir backing up into neighborhoods, not only from rain falling on your street.

Soil adds a wrinkle. The Katy soil series, described from a site near Fulshear and common across the Brazos to San Jacinto stretch of coastal prairie, is a fine sandy loam over clay loam with a seasonal perched water table. The Addicks series, described from just north of Addicks, holds a water table 12 to 30 inches down for a month or two in most years. Draining an in-ground pool while the ground is that wet invites groundwater to push on an empty shell. After a flood we clear debris, shock and rebalance, and check any equipment that sat in water before it runs again. Our storm cleanup work starts with that inspection.

The drive from our Sugar Land office

As a straight line on the map, the reservoir subdivisions are about 12 miles up from our Sugar Land office. One way up is SH-6 north through Mission Bend to I-10. The other is US-59 out to the Grand Parkway and north from there, which helps when SH-6 is backed up.

Local Questions

Pool service in Barker: FAQ

Yes. Nottingham Country, Kelliwood, and Green Trails Park use Katy mailing addresses but sit near Barker Reservoir, between Katy and Houston. Lanterra serves all of them.
It can. Water here comes from separate utility districts, and the region is moving from groundwater toward Lake Houston surface water, so hardness and alkalinity are not fixed. We test what is in your pool and adjust from there rather than relying on a neighborhood average.
That comes down to what has actually failed. We diagnose the shell, tile, and equipment first and tell you what needs work now and what can wait. You get the honest answer before any quote.
