Pool Service in North Houston, TX
North Houston is a label, not a city. Here it means the north and northwest side of the City of Houston, from Independence Heights, Garden Oaks and Oak Forest on the inner north side out to Acres Homes, Inwood Forest and Greenspoint, where I-45 meets Beltway 8. Lanterra Pools handles weekly service, cleaning and repairs across that stretch, and we diagnose a problem before we put a price on it.
Which north side, exactly
The name gets used loosely. The North Houston District, for instance, is a management district the Texas Legislature created in 1991 for infrastructure, public safety and planning around Greenspoint. It is not the whole north side. Inside Houston city limits, homes generally get their tap water from the city's main system, though Houston runs a few smaller systems too.
In 2025 that main system ran on 90.3% surface water, taken from the Trinity River by way of Lake Livingston and from the San Jacinto River by way of Lake Conroe and Lake Houston. Wells more than 750 feet deep supplied the remainder. Total hardness bottomed out at 43.5 ppm, peaked at 229 and averaged 135.5. Much of unincorporated north Harris County gets MUD water instead, and Houston's figures do not describe it, so we test each pool rather than going by ZIP code.
Oaks, pecans and a lot of pine needles
Garden Oaks, established by Edward L. Crain in 1937, is a neighborhood of ranch homes and bungalows with many oak, pecan and pine trees. Much of Acres Homes lies in pine forest, and some of its larger houses sit on lots with trees. For a backyard pool beneath those trees, expect oak catkins and pollen in spring, pecans and leaves in fall, and pine needles in between.
Needles slip past skimmer weirs and collect in corners and on steps, where they can stain plaster if left to sit. Pollen coats the surface and loads the filter. A common manufacturer guideline is to clean a cartridge filter once the gauge climbs 8 to 10 psi over its clean starting pressure, and under heavy tree cover you can hit that mark quickly. Regular filter cleaning and brushing matter as much as skimming here.
Old lots, new houses, aging equipment
Oak Forest was founded in 1947 by Frank Sharp's Oak Forest Realty Corporation, and by 2011 it held about 5,480 homes. Its original 1950s houses are often torn down for new homes of roughly 3,000 square feet. Inwood Forest began when its developer bought the land in 1963, and many of its first houses went to oil company executives. Houston annexed it in 1975. Independence Heights, incorporated in 1915 as the first African American municipality in Texas, has a historic district listed on the National Register.
That mix means one block can hold a new pool beside an old tree line, while the house next door runs a pump that has been there for decades. If an older pump quits, the replacement rules have changed: since September 29, 2025, newly manufactured standard-size motors sold as pool pump replacements have to offer variable-speed control. We check whether a pump repair makes sense before suggesting a replacement, and we tell you which way we would go and why.
Greens Bayou, White Oak Bayou and storm season
Greens Bayou runs through Greenspoint and overtopped its banks in Allison in 2001 and again in Harvey in 2017. Inwood Forest flooded in Allison and saw damage during Harvey. The City of Houston and county flood control officials have been turning the old Inwood Forest golf course into a detention basin that holds floodwater for 24 to 48 hours before releasing it to White Oak Bayou. In 2024 it was scheduled to be finished in early 2026.
When a storm leaves silt, limbs and leaves in the water, storm cleanup starts with the hardware: pump, filter and wiring all get looked over, and only then does the system get turned back on.
Getting there from Sugar Land
Measured in a straight line, the middle of this area is about 20 miles from our office. For Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and Independence Heights the drive is US 59 to the I-610 West Loop, then north. Greenspoint, Acres Homes and Inwood Forest are usually reached by way of Beltway 8. Every pool is assigned a weekday and one technician, so the visits come from someone who already knows your pump, your filter and your yard.
