Green Pool Cleanup for Fulshear's Young Pools and New Yards
A green pool in Fulshear is usually a young pool that slipped through a gap: the builder's startup routine ended, a move or a trip got in the way, or a week of storms quietly shut off the salt cell. Lanterra clears it, then sizes the job to your yard: new sod draining toward the water, stabilizer left by a summer of tablets in full sun, and how quickly your neighborhood's water pressure can refill the pool if some has to come out.
How a new pool falls through the cracks
With so many homes built in the last few years, the pool that turns here is often the family's first. The builder's startup period ends, boxes and school schedules take over, and nobody is testing the water. In summer heat, a week or two of low chlorine is all algae needs.
Salt pools have a gap of their own. Heavy rain dilutes the salt, and one widely used salt system suspends chlorine production once salt drops to about 2300 ppm, so a run of storms can switch the generator off without anyone noticing. From the deck, a cell that has stopped producing looks the same as one that is working. On a green salt pool, we read the salt level and inspect the cell before deciding how much shock it needs.
Sod, beds and dirt from the next lot
New yards in Cross Creek West, Fulshear Lakes, Tamarron and the other building sections get fresh sod and planting beds, and those are often fertilized hard to get them established. Rain and sprinklers carry some of that toward the pool. The nutrients help algae return right after a shock, so on a new yard we test phosphates before treating and plan the follow-up visits around the result.
Dirt from graded homesites nearby makes the removal stage slower. Dead algae and fine silt load the filter together, so a cleanup next to active construction usually needs more filter cleanings or backwashes than the same bloom in a finished neighborhood.
When some of the water has to go
On a pool that has lived on tablets in full sun, stabilizer is the usual reason store-bought shock failed, and past a certain point the fix is lowering it by replacing water. The Katy soil series around Fulshear drains slowly and can hold perched water near the surface in cool months and after heavy rain, so we schedule a partial drain for a drier stretch and lower the pool only as far as the stabilizer reading requires.
The refill comes from wells today, since EPA records list groundwater as the source for both the City of Fulshear system and Fulshear MUD 3A. In June 2024, Community Impact named Fulbrook and Del Webb among Fulshear neighborhoods that had city water-pressure problems, and on a low-pressure line a refill of thousands of gallons can run well into the next day. Chlorine stays up the whole time so the bloom cannot restart, and the pool is rebalanced once it is full.
Creek flooding and a floor full of leaves
Harvey's 2017 floodwaters were mapped by USGS along Bessie's Creek from above Pattison to the Brazos. Runoff or floodwater that gets into a pool carries silt and debris that turn it brown or green and burn through chlorine. The debris comes out and the equipment is confirmed safe to run before any shock goes in. Storm cleanup handles that first stage, and the green pool after a storm guide covers what to do until we arrive.
In shaded Fulbrook yards, a pool left alone for a few weeks in fall often has a mat of leaves rotting on the floor. That mat has to come out with a net first, or it consumes chlorine as fast as it is added. Once the water is clear and holds chlorine overnight, weekly pool service keeps it there.
First readings on a green Fulshear pool
- Stabilizer level, especially on full-sun pools fed tablets
- Phosphates when sod or beds went in recently
- Salt reading and cell output on salt pools
- Leaves, husks or silt on the floor before any shock
- Soil moisture and the forecast before a partial drain
- Fill water pressure if a refill is likely
